Our STORY

Taf and Anna have each called a lot of places home. Somehow, their paths kept nearly crossing. They overlapped in New Haven for a year. Then in Boston for another. Same university, same cities, same time, and never actually meeting. It took New York to finally make it happen.

For their first date, they went to Patent Pending, a speakeasy in Manhattan. Anna’s first impression of Taf was that he was an excellent listener and very serious. It turns out they are both deeply unserious people, which has kept things quite entertaining ever since, including a growing list of made-up names for things that now feel completely official. The rest of Anna’s very enthusiastic first impressions are safely preserved in her text threads with her closest friends.

By the second or third date, it already felt different. Anna beating Taf at mini golf was a shocking development and a personal highlight that has not been repeated since. But what really stood out was how obvious it was to everyone else. Anna’s friends kept saying the same thing: “You look SO happy.” They were right.

Since then, they have covered a lot of ground together. Anna brought Taf to Canada to meet her family. Taf brought Anna to Portland to meet his immediate family, who loved her instantly, and Zimbabwe to meet his extended family. In Zimbabwe, he took Anna to visit his family's ancestral home in Chitomborwizi. They also went to Zambia and hung over the edge of Victoria Falls at Devil’s Pool, an activity Anna's dad lovingly summarized as: "Such smart people doing such stupid things". They escaped to a resort in Mexico, taking a much-needed break from their busy work schedules. And next up is South Africa.

Somewhere along the way, they moved in together (read: Anna came over to Taf's at some point and never left), officially ending what Taf confidently referred to as their “long distance relationship” from Manhattan’s Financial District to Midtown.

They love the big trips, but it is the everyday moments that matter most. Working side by side on the couch. Making cocktails in their kitchen. Decorating their apartment together to make it a real home. On their first anniversary, they went back to Patent Pending to celebrate where it all started.

The proposal happened on the rooftop of their building, with the Empire State Building behind them. Taf had a beautiful arrangement of red roses set up and their song playing in the background. Anna isn't usually a huge fan of surprises, but this one was perfect - she wouldn't change a single detail.

After all the almost meetings in other cities, they are especially grateful the timing finally worked out. Anna likes to say that all the detours, even the difficult ones, were worth it because they led her to Taf at exactly the right time. They are excited for everything ahead - the big milestones, the day to day, and all the deeply unserious moments in between.
